Our Services
Play Therapy
At Zola, we use Child-Centered Play Therapy because it's known be an effective strategy and the preferred approach for children ages 3-10. And, it can be used to address a wide variety of concerns that you may have for your child.
Individual Therapy
For older children, preadolescents/adolescents, and adults who prefer traditional talk therapy, individual therapy services are also offered.
Parenting Training & Support
Parenting happens outside the therapy room so we support parents by offering Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT) sessions. It's designed to help equip you with powerful tools for parenting while also strengthening the bond with your child.

A supportive space for your child to grow
At Zola Counseling, we believe every child has the capacity to grow, adapt, and thrive when given the right support.
Our team approaches each child with connection and curiosity to meet each child exactly where they are.
We also work closely with parents to create lasting change beyond the therapy room.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is it helpful to prepare my child before they come for their first session?
This can help alleviate some anxiety about separation from parent for session and also for the child to know what to expect and better able to adjust. This can be done by telling them where they will be going and who they will be meeting with. You can mention that you have been in the play room before and seen the play materials. If they ask why they are coming, you can let them know that they will be coming each week to play with Rebekah Talley in the play room.
What should I expect from the first session?
This is typically the time when the child begins to explore the play area and when the child gets to know and develop a trusting relationship with the therapist. It is not uncommon for a child to be resistant in this phase. This is not an indication that treatment will not be worthwhile. Some children take a few sessions to feel comfortable exploring, playing, and interacting during session.
Talk to your therapist if you have a concern. It is expected that parents will be involved with their children’s treatment. Ideally, a parent-only session will occur 1x a month in addition to your child’s weekly sessions.
You can also check out our new clients page for some additional information.
What might my child say about their session?
You may hear your child talk about playing games, playing with toys, and even say that the therapist talks funny. This is completely normal, as the approach with the child can be a combination of directive and non-directive where the child leads the activity to gain insight into their world.
The therapist may use a range of techniques and theoretical orientations to work with your child. Utilizing games, verbal
reflections/tracking (which to a child can sound like the therapist is repeating what the child says), sand tray, and the use of specific toys in the playroom can help the therapist engage in a child’s world. These are standard means of therapeutic engagement and treatment.
How long will therapy last?
Many parents want to know how long treatment will take and how long they will be bringing their child to sessions. There is no way to know this answer definitively. Every child, parent, and family has different needs. It is important to trust the process, as treatment is not a one time, fix it all kind of process. It takes time for a child to develop a relationship, trust, and rapport.
What about confidentiality & privacy?
Confidentiality is important to the process for both parent and child. You should let your child know that you are interested in their experience but please refrain from asking about their session in detail. We encourage children to let parents know what they think is important about the session. And, of course, we will always let you know if there is any kind of safety concern that is disclosed during our sessions.
Small steps now can make a big difference
With the right support, children can build confidence, navigate big feelings, and feel more at ease in their world. We’d be glad to support your family along the way.
